Hi! I'm Dr. Jessica Borushok, Ph.D.
I help people learn to unhook from racing thoughts, break patterns keeping them stuck, and not only feel more in control of their lives, but truly be more in control.
So often we spend all of our time time fighting with our mind that we're never living our life. I can help you be more present to the people and things that matter to you.
Here's a little of my professional background to give you an idea of what my experience is and how I can help you . . .
Psychologist
I received my Masters degree in 2014 and my Ph.D. in 2017 from Bowling Green State University. I studied Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Behavioral Medicine/Health Psychology. I am now licensed in California, North Carolina and through PSYPACT can see clients in any of these 34+ states via telehealth.
Award-Winning Author
I've co-authored three books and a card deck for mental health professionals. My first book,The ACT Approach, won the 2018 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Awards. I was a creative writing minor in college and am so happy I'm still connected to writing in my work as a therapist.
ACT Trainer
In 2020 I became a Peer Reviewed ACT Trainer. I train mental health and healthcare providers how to use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT, said as one word 'act') in their work and lives. I love being able to share ACT with others whether through books, trainings, or social media, such as my Youtube Channel.
My Story
I always knew I wanted to be in a helping profession. Not only for the obvious reason of helping others, but also to satisfy my deep curiosity for understanding how and why people do the things they do.
When you understand what drives your behavior, it places you in a position to honestly evaluate how you want to live your life. It also is the first step in breaking patterns that aren't serving you, so you can create patterns that are.
I want to live my life with intention; a life filled with connection, curiosity, creativity, and kindness. And I want you to have the power to choose for yourself the type of life you want to walk towards. Even if difficult stuff is there too. Especially then.
I know what it's like to feel stuck, hopeless and in a constant worry loop. To feel utterly out of control. When I was in my late teens and early 20s I struggled with OCD. Thankfully, I was able to work with a therapist who was trained in evidence-based practices, and got to a pretty great place.
Then in my mid-to-late 20s I went through a traumatic experience that sucker punched me. I learned through personal experience what PTSD and depression felt like. And while it was one of the worst moments in my life, the process out of it gave me a deeper understanding of what my clients go through.
And it made me even more passionate about this work. Because it gave me the opportunity to create a beautiful life for myself, even in the midst of darkness. And I want that for you too.
Even if right now that feels impossible.
